Please Don't Read This
Something we all seek in our professional lives is growth. Meaning, we need to seek a certain amount of risk and gather more experiences (because that's what growth is).
Many women choose to not take chances and risk when it comes to their careers. A large factor in this is the possibility of bearing children.
Please don't pick me. I don't think I can handle it.
So much of the child-raising process is assumed by the woman in the relationship, that it deters a woman from taking more responsibility when her personal life is already so action-packed. The lesson from this chapter is not to let these things slow you down, but to allow you to accelerate instead.
Encourage those around you to experience growth.
By leaving before you even join, you remove yourself from everything that could be without giving it a chance.
P.S. if you want to read more on this topic, these are part of a series of lessons and insights I took from Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In for Graduates. A great book for people looking to help others (and themselves) at work.
