This question can be a difficult one for media relations or public relations professionals to answer. What if the CEO is not media trained, but another senior communicator is? Who should be the face of the company in front of the press? Not necessarily. If you have an established spokesperson for your organization he/she should be the "face" b/c it is the role they were hired or chosen to do. Now if the crisis does elevate the CEO can be a good "change of pace" especially if you are trying to move to "what's next."
No. The spokesperson depends on the crisis and the individual with the most knowledge or the greatest connection with the community impacted.

8 年No. The spokesperson/s can be the individuals who most often have contact with a specific audience. My experience has been that if we keep the communication in its normal channels we can better neutralize the concerns. That requires training and extra consideration to make certain that the persons you want to carry a message can do so effectively. I believe that if the CEO has never interacted with a customer, vendor or other key audience, it only escalates the issue to introduce him/her into the scenario. I put the CEO in the public realm but work with other levels of manage to engage the closest audiences.
