I remember how shy was I in my middle and high school days. I never made my skills public. I used to learn and play an advanced Indian percussion instrument called Tabla. Nobody in my school knew about it. I had observed other less skilled students perform Tabla and they boasted about it publicly. But I had never opted to tell the teachers and my class mates about my Tabla playing. Who had been the gainer? No one, because it was a loss for all the stakeholders. I missed to take part in the school extra-curricular events, and the music group of my school missed a practising percussionist. Now I realise that I should have banged my own drum.
Do you have a skill that is essential for accomplishing a job?
All of us have many skills. Some are curricular or professional skills, and some are extra-curricular or extra-professional skills. Any skill is useful for doing some job or the other. In schools, colleges, or in an organisation or a company we need to know the strengths of each and every member of our group.
Knowing the strength of the group or organisation is a must in profession
Professionally we need skilled people to accomplish a complex job. If the group members are not open to tell about their skill sets, how can we know the full strength of the group? And if we are not knowing the full strength, the group becomes weak to accomplish a complex project.
Life and society may need your skills, please don't be shy to explicitly tell about your skills
In life we need a variety of services. Some are regular, and some are emergency. It is better to know each other's skill sets. Some people are inherently shy. We need to incite them to tell about their skills. If we know the skill sets of our community, we will be in an advantageous position to execute complex projects and solve problems in crisis situations.
Do you tell about your skills?
Are you shy to bang your own drum? Do you hide your skills from others? Don't you think that your friends and colleagues should know about your skills? Why don't you give your group and community a chance to experience your skills in executing a complex project. If you are really hiding your skills, what is the reason behind it?
