There is a consensus among those who claim to know these things that people hate change. Why, then, do people enjoy pleasant surprises so much? Receiving presents, being treated in special ways, discovering an unexpected windfall, or seeing any of thousands of other extraordinary little differences in our lives as surprises change our routines and lives. What is it about these things that makes them so exciting and pleasant?
?The secret is in the unexpected. What would your reaction be if you received significant money from a legitimate source? Would you put it in the bank and continue your life as if nothing had happened? I don’t think so. Imagine you just received $500,000 (you will pay about half to the government, so you only have under $300,000 to work with) and can do anything. Take a few minutes to think about what you would do with the money.
?While thinking about your newfound treasure, let me suggest you receive tiny surprises daily to enjoy. Here are some recent examples from my own life.
Once, Phyllis and I got lost when driving back from Las Vegas. In our efforts to find our way back to the freeway, we discovered a wholesale distributor of foam products. We went inside and picked up some pads for our office chairs and a triangular bolster for Phyllis to lean against on the couch to get her feet rubbed while watching TV. All these foam products need a fabric cover, so we bought a sewing machine to sew the covers made from the fabric we discovered at Walmart. We wound up buying two identical machines so we could both sew. All of that, a new hobby, our new office chairs padded, a great bolster for Phyllis, a new shirt, a poncho, and a great new resource, all from getting lost. It sure beats complaining.
?Another time, while looking up information online, I misspelled one of the words. On the rendered page, I saw a reference to something I had been trying to find for over a year that had nothing to do with the original search. That led to me calling the company and creating a new and very likely profitable relationship for both of us.
What ‘surprises’ have you been enjoying over the last few weeks? What surprise that originally was ‘unpleasant’ was a great learning experience or opportunity? Would you prefer to have everything always stay the same? Here’s a strange statistic. Those who sort for differences (5% of the population) are the most successful. Why? Because they’re comfortable with differences as a way of life and welcome the new and different all the time.
?Today and today, only see how many surprises you can accumulate and what value you can derive from them, both short and long-term. If you find the experience pleasant, make each day a new surprise and enjoy the benefits over the rest of your life. If you do not experience any pleasure, be blessed in your misery and pain, for you shall endure much of it for the rest of your life.
?Call us today to learn more about leveraging the surprises in your life or to discover how to increase them for your enjoyment and profit. We’ll surprise you with a free session.?Check us out: https://mycoach.com
