Jain caves dating to the 7th-8th centuries CE, known as Bairlingeswara Swamy temple, featuring sculptures of Tirthankara and Ambika. As per requests the District Administration and Archaeological Survey of India to develop the site as a tourist spot.

Silver Portrait coin of ‘Yajna Sri Satakarni’

  • The coin features a striking Dravidian artistic style, possibly portraying realistic portraits rather than stylized versions.
  • The obverse showcases a bold, Indianized bust with elaborate hairstyles, ponytails and large earrings.
  • The bilingual (Sanskrit-Prakrit) legends in Brahmi script reveal governance or trade ties with diverse linguistic groups.?
  • Found in the Northern and Western territories, these coins bear the royal 'Ujjain' emblem, six hills shaped, sun and moon on the reverse.
  • Yajna Sri Satakarni marked the decline of the Satavahana Empire, while the Western Satraps flourished for another two centuries.

Shaikpet Sarai and Mosque

Qutub Shahi Period (16th Century CE)

Today, we have several ways of accommodating travelers from all corners of the world. Have you ever wondered how people from our past would have managed in the earlier times??

Close to?the hustle bustle of the high-tech city of?Hyderabad, we have a beautiful traveler's inn built about 400 years ago - ‘Shaikpet Sarai & Mosque’ in Shaikpet, Hyderabad.

This was a traveler's haven for people entering the Golconda empire from neighboring kingdoms such as Bidar, Bijapur, Aurangabad and so on. Constructed between the years 1550-1580, during Ibrahim Qutub Shah's reign, the Shaikpet Sarai(INN) serves as an invaluable historical treasure, (location)

The Sarai (inn) stands as a testament to the Qutub Shahi architectural prowess.?

Let us?glance through?the unique aspects of the structure,

  • Adorned with stucco designs and unique pineapple motifs, it is a captivating blend of elegance and mystique. The integration of stone columns, pointed arches and intricate floral designs showcased the artistic mastery of the time.?

  • The double-story stone structure, later expanded by Abdullah Qutub Shah in 1633-34, features 30 rooms, accommodation for horses and camels, a mosque and the tomb of an unidentified Sufi saint.
