A Plea from the Heart: Armenians' Cry for Help

A Plea from the Heart: Armenians' Cry for Help

Imagine, for a moment, that you're diving into a historical novel. It's a tale of resilience, survival, and an indomitable spirit. The protagonists are the Armenians, a people whose history is painted with both vibrant colors of culture and dark strokes of persecution.

As an Armenian American, my family's narrative is a testament to the strength of the human spirit. My grandparents, like countless others, escaped the Armenian Genocide of 1915, in which over 1.5 million Armenians were systematically killed. They fled, carrying with them not just haunting memories, but dreams of a brighter future for generations to come.

Today, however, the pages of our history are once again stained with impending tragedy. In Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), over 120,000 Armenians find themselves on the brink of another genocide. A blockade, enforced by Azerbaijani forces, has cut off essential supplies. Food, medicine, and hope are becoming scarce. Starvation, a cruel weapon of war, is being wielded once more.

The Genocide Convention defines genocide as acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group. The blockade of the Lachin Corridor, preventing access to life-sustaining supplies, is a stark manifestation of this definition. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has recognized that "deprivation of food, medical care, shelter, or clothing" can constitute acts of genocide.

But this isn't just a tale of despair. It's a call to action. The Armenian diaspora, spread across the globe, is rallying. But we need more than just voices; we need allies. We need informed, compassionate individuals to stand with us, to amplify the silent cries of Nagorno-Karabakh.

As you navigate through your LinkedIn feed, amidst the business updates and professional milestones, I implore you to pause. Reflect on the power of collective action. Educate yourself and others, engage in discussions, and raise awareness. Let's not be passive observers; let's be active advocates for peace and justice.

In the end, this isn't just the story of the Armenians. It's a story about humanity, compassion, and the collective spirit that binds us all. Let's ensure it has a hopeful ending, one where the echoes of past atrocities don't reverberate into the present.
