Is Playing It Safe Really Costing You?

Let’s talk about career risks...
Not the kind where you quit your job on a whim or take a leap without a plan.
I mean the risk of doing nothing.
I’ve seen it over and over again - talented, hardworking managers who stay put in a role where they’re undervalued, overlooked, or underpaid.
Not because they lack the skills to move up, but because they’re waiting for the perfect time.
? “I need more experience before I go for that promotion.”
? "I need one more certification (even though I have already 10+)"
? “I’ll wait until the timing is better.”
? “I don’t want to rock the boat.”
And while they wait??
Someone else takes the opportunity. Someone with less experience, less expertise, and less hesitation.
If I could be totally honest with you…
I’d tell you that the leaders who move up aren’t always the most skilled - they're just skilled enough to take the challenge and keep improving their skills in that next level role...
And they also the ones who take action:
? Speak up about what they want instead of hoping leadership notices.
? Build influence by making connections, not just working hard.
? Take calculated risks instead of waiting for permission.
And yes, putting yourself out there feels uncomfortable.
Yes, there’s a chance you won’t get the role, the opportunity, or the recognition right away.
But if you don’t take the shot, you already have your answer.
So, as we settle into 2025, here’s the question:
?? Where in your career are you playing it too safe?
