“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist” - Picasso
From a young age, we are conditioned to play by the rules. Respect our elders, listen to our parents, colour between the lines and conditioned to believe that Santa is real. We believe everything we're told like it’s gospel and for good reason- It keeps us safe.
Safe to survive. Not to do anything dangerous that could jeopardise our survival. It makes sense. If you die, you die. You lose. No more moves to make and that’s dangerous.
“Playing safe can cause a lot of damage in the long run.” – Banksy
If you want to have an excruciatingly boring life by watching others live then sit back and keep watching.
If you continually colour within the lines of your life, you’ll accumulate a metric tonne of regrets.
You see, it's easy to play the couch-critic, playing it safe on the sidelines and commenting on every passing play. How people are dressed and how you could have done better if only you were them. In fact, there are people make a living out of doing just that; There are even entire TV channels dedicated to it. It's easy, safe, boring, and it sucks.
Fortunately, most things these days won’t kill you. So, you might as well play. Push the envelope. Poke the box. Give it a crack. Publish. Start. Go. Do it live.
