Playing Games You Know You Can Win
Brandon R Allen
25 years working with leaders to help them organize their work life and transform their relationships by helping them see what they can’t see and do what they didn’t think possible.
I connected with a leader recently who told me that they weren't feeling very inspired about what they should put into their upcoming annual plan for their team. They mentioned that the felt good about their team and the work that they were doing.
There's nothing wrong with being happy with your team's performance but as a coach, I decided to do some digging around.
After 2-3 questions, some significant issues/challenges came up for this leader. The issues/challenges weren't things that needed to be fixed immediately but they were the kind of things that if you leave unaddressed for too long, resentment and anger start to creep in.
The insight for this leader was that they were playing it safe in their leadership and avoiding difficult conversations and uncomfortable situations.
We all do this in areas of our life. We play games we know we can win to avoid the discomfort of failure (my personal favorite) or to avoid uncomfortable situations and conflict.
As you start to plan for 2025, what would it look like for you to play to your edge? What's the thing that have been thinking about but haven't committed to that would create a massive shift in your performance as a leader?
PS. If you are looking to get support with your path, I am doing 3 free Breakthrough Blueprint sessions between now and the end of the year. I already have a couple of them booked from the masterclass I did last week but I still have a spot open. If you want it, you can book your first session here.
