In a world that is more disruptive and uncertain, levels of anxiousness are on the increase. And as counterintuitive as it seems, one of the ways to combat this is to #play more.
I can almost hear you say, “who has time to play now?”
The action of play has been with us throughout our lives, but the rules have changed with us slightly. As we get older (society tells us that) we need to be more productive, but we still can play, and we should play more.
?The act of play is not only about the activity, or the length of time needed, but it is the mindset that we bring to it -fun and light-hearted. It could be as simple as telling a joke, a magic trick, or a simple, fun, instruction sent on a work email, with the intention of introducing a playful mindset. Play can easily be and should be incorporated into the workplace as the results are hugely beneficial. It's the addition of smiling, laughter, a brief respite from the mundane that shifts the focus, re-energises, and releases the creative juices. Basically playing, even for just a minute or two should form a part of the day.
Here is a Play exercise that shows how easy and fun it can be without taking away too much of our productivity time. "Take what you need," is an easily created, printable exercise, that can be given to a fellow staff member or pinned to the board near the coffee machine. You can make up the headings and the tabs, and it can be turned into an interactive exercise, where people of "task," to cmplete.

7 个月Love the South Africanism - “don’t skinner”. Play is undervalued, and grandchildren are great at encouraging us to do exactly that, as I have experienced lately.
