Play-to-Earn Gaming: An interview with Serdar Senay of MAD Metaverse

This article is a follow up to the previous Play-to-Earn Gaming Revolution piece. Here is an interview with Serdar Senay who is managing MAD Metaverse: a Play-to-Earn gaming company working to solve a lot of the problems facing the gaming industry.

Firstly, could you briefly tell us about yourself?

Hi Yonatan, sure. I’ve been working for 15 years in product and engineering, in corporate firms such as GSK, Nokia, Canon, and co-founder/C roles in startups such as Bitcompare, Coinburp and Rota. I’ve bootstrapped some startups from zero to seven-figure earnings, as well as raised eight-figure funds. I’m always laser-focused on building sustainable product ecosystems, and I am currently leading MAD Metaverse.

Can you tell us a bit about the MAD Metaverse project and how it came about?

MAD Metaverse initially came about from the idea of representing evolving cells on blockchain as NFTs. We also wanted to build the best NFT collection out there aesthetically and from a sound design perspective.

MAD Metaverse is where you come to start creating, living, breathing NFTs. This is where you play god. Our upcoming game consists of living/evolving NFT Collections, a Web 3 Lab where you play with your evolving MAD Metacells, a marketplace where artists can release NFT art collections which can have a meta cell evolution process embedded in the code (MAD Metacells look more like NFT art pieces as they evolve) & a AAA strategy battle game called Nano Wars, built by Cyber Unit, Kevuru Games (Epic Games, EA, Lucasfilm), and many other incredible studios we partner with. With the max amount of utility & multiple revenue streams, be ready to play the best P2E ecosystem ever made.

We built all the game utilities on Polygon. This is to avoid expensive gas fees and slower transaction confirmation. The only way we use Ethereum is by dropping the MAD Metascientist's ready-to-play NFT collection, 10,200 scientist NFTs in 3rd person shooter view, present in different locations wearing different garments, and even some non-human species and robots.

Can everyone really play-to-earn? Or is it more like win-to-earn?

It is truly a play-to-earn game. In our battle dynamics, we specifically designed it so even losers of a game earn some consolation prizes.

What are the greatest challenges you’ve faced so far? How did you overcome it?

Unity of branding. Too many entities work on visuals, so it’s hard to make sure everyone is building towards our brand and generic designs. UX has also been a great problem to solve, similar to any other project inside the web3 space.

We are building a structure where leveraging partnerships and community building becomes a part of brand identity. There are many such structures, to name a few is evolving NFTs concept and the host protocol which shapes our own in game assets via interactions with third party NFTs, and other cool roadmap milestones that will truly decentralise how we create.

What is your team’s vision for the future of MAD Metaverse?

We want to build a successful platform and use a DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organisation) for governance. This is a system whereby an organisation uses a set of rules written in code, voted on and controlled by the organisation’s members, not a central governing body. We want to make sure our players can be true owners and decide their futures. Without players, games are nothing.

Another focus we have is making sure those on low income are presented with an opportunity to make a better living while enjoying themselves by playing games in the comfort of their homes.

What do you think about the future of the gaming industry and the greatest challenge facing it?

The future of the gaming industry belongs to those who truly engage with the gaming community. This will benefit those who want to earn from playing games. A big challenge in front of the cryptocurrency space in general including DeFi and P2E spaces is user experience (UX). UX has been poor in this field so companies that solve this for mass adoption will win in the long term.
