Platinum Jubilee Celebration in Stafford Town Centre

Staffordians took over the Town Centre with over 15,000 descending on the County Town over the eight hours that the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee took place on Friday 3rd June

Despite the thunderstorms predicted the day before the sun shone on all the party goers.

Stu Haycock and the Stafford FM Roadshow hosted the event with live music on stage from The Players, Black Bear Kiss, Kenyon Walker, Musical Theatre Stafford, Staffordshire All Women's Choir, Theatre1, Stafford Brigades Youth Marching Band and displays by Dance Nuvo, Dance Fusion and Pads Dogs Training

The Worshipful the Mayor of Stafford Cllr Philip Leason along with Peter Taunton Staffordshire Town Crier opened the event at noon, the Mayor also presented the winners in St Chad’s Church of the Jubilation Art Exhibition orchestrated by Lisa Jonston of Red Bucket Projects with first place going to Katherine Nelson, second to Sally Deegan and Highly Commended, Peter Burns with Highly Commended Under 18s achieved by Elizabeth Newton

Delighting the crowds Deputy Lord Lieutenant Jeremy Lefroy crowned young Arya Sharma as the Queen and Manu as Queens Consort who received a commemorative trophy each.

The poetry competition ran by Mel Wardle Woodend our Poet Laureate were presented their awards by MP Theo Clarke and Cllr Carolyn Trowbridge in St Chad’s. In the children's category 3rd place went to Isla Neill age 11, 2nd place Fraser Hodges-Miner age 14, 1st place Rosie Byrne age 10. In the adults category; Highly Commended Sandra Chambers,3rd place Sarah Shearing, 2nd place Susan Wood and in 1st place Sarah Dale

Lorraine Conkey the organiser of the whole event said;

“It was a brilliant day to see the people of Staffordshire coming together to celebrate Her Majesties 70 years on the throne; what a fantastic atmosphere. I would like to thank everyone who helped pull the event together, Rev Alison Thomas of St Chad’s Church, Poet Laureate Mel Wardle Woodend and Lisa Johnston, the dignitaries for coming to support the event. The stewards who worked so hard all day, Dave and David from dB Audio Solutions Ltd , Promarco Promotions Ltd stage hire, Cllr Ann Edgeller for helping me on the LRP stand all day, the pubs and clubs and businesses that joined in. All the bands were brilliant as well as the dance troops and dog display and of course Stu Haycock and Janet Smith with a quick appearance of Mat Giles from 107.30 Stafford FM and the media students from Stafford college, Pure Dental Solutions for the giveaways, stallholders and street food vendors and mobile bars and photographers Paul Milgate-Scarrott and Peter Wilkes Photography; you all did an amazing job, well done

We hope you can all join us again on the 16th of this month for the next Stafford Walking Street 4 – 9pm in the town centre when we have the Love Junkies and The Lack Of Commitments on stage ”
