Last week, my manager informed me that I had won one of Microsoft's most prestigious honors, the Platinum Club Outstanding Achiever Award, which recognizes the Top 1% of performers worldwide for the fiscal year.

Although I have won several top awards throughout my career at Microsoft, this one is different. Why? Because the senior leadership team (SLT) selects awards winner from a short-list of high-performance employees who consistently performs at the highest level and directly contributes to the company's success.

To win a Platinum Club, employees must be tracking to a minimum of 100% total weighted attainment with a substantial impact on business results. However, this is just one dimension. Winners must be an outstanding Team-Player with a demonstrated track leveraging the work of others and contributing to the success of others.


Pablo's major awards in Microsoft

As an M2 (Manager of Managers), delivering business impact is about the team performance. FY22 results show a significant productivity increase, which has helped us exceed our targeted goals. Therefore, I'm grateful to the entire Data and AI team based in Latin America and the Caribbean. Thank you all for being patient and focusing on the essential goal: meeting our customer's expectations and needs.?Without my team and stakeholders support, I never have won the award. A massive thanks to each member of my team!

Being an M2 of an organization like Microsoft isn't easy. But with a team like my at the back, everything seems effortless. My team has always motivated me and pushed me to the limits so that the organization can see better days. Again, I thank them so much for all the support they have provided.

To win, we also need to deliver a substantial extra mile. In my case, I'm dedicating quality time to helping others through mentoring. First, by keep my promise to mentor at least five employees for 6-12 months. Second, by contributing to training/coaching individuals to become successful mentors. Without a doubt, the return of investment (ROI) in both initiatives is high since I learn a lot from the other side of the team. A clear win-win situation.?

Microsoft's employee compensation dimensions

As part of the award announcement, the LATAM STL highlighted my contributions to creating a non-commercial collaborative initiative to connect Chief Data Officers (CDOs) across the area. Today's initiative includes CDOs from 26 enterprises representing over ten countries and eight industries. The forum, as I live to call it, has four goals:

  1. Bring clarity about CDO's role, mission, and responsibilities.
  2. Create a collaboration space to discuss the focus areas, challenges, and trends as part of the CDO's sole responsibility.?
  3. Provide an opportunity to offer feedback, recommendations, and advice to help CDO organizations to become an Intelligence-Driven organization (IDO).

The four-goal is more internal, we want to learn from Data & AI leaders to understand better the CDO's persona and apply the knowledge to improve the way we serve their organizations. For example, (1) we are increasing our capacity to deliver value in areas that are top priorities for them and (2) creating new training courses based on their needs.

Thanks to my manager, team, colleagues, and senior leadership team for the opportunity, partnership, collaboration, and trust, without which this wouldn't have been possible.

It's been a fun ride, and I can't wait to see what else the future holds!?
