A platform to implement change
As part of a global organisation and industry leader, Cummins Asia Pacific always strives to evolve with the world as it progresses. This applies not only in the advancement of technology but changing norms aligning with our values of integrity, diversity and inclusion, caring, excellence and teamwork.
Brooke Jacka is a Global Onboarding Facilitator for Cummins Asia Pacific, leading interactive sessions where she welcomes new employees to the world of Cummins, connects them with senior leaders and provides them with the knowledge to operate in their roles.
Brooke shares with us how Cummins has proven itself to her as an employer worth being fully committed to, enables employees to achieve their full potential and can bring their true and whole selves to work.
Corporate and personal values aligned
In 2001, Brooke joined Cummins as a Sales Administrator where she went through multiple role changes before finding her calling in onboarding. She credits Cummins’ values to be one of the main reasons for applying, as it resonates with her beliefs.
“One of the main reasons I joined Cummins was because I really believe in their values. The Cummins values really spoke to me, particularly diversity and inclusion. I’ve always held that personally and it remains my favourite value here at Cummins.”
With over twenty years of experience under her belt, Brooke witnessed how Cummins brings its values to life. She is proud of the key decisions and actions Cummins has taken to make all employees feel represented at work.
“I have seen over the last few years that diversity and inclusion has really come to life in the decisions Cummins made with its practices and policies and being incredibly open to understanding the different diverse requirements of our employees,” said Brooke.
“Particularly when redesigning our headquarters to include a prayer room and breastfeeding room, as this proved to me that the values weren’t just aspirational, they were put into action.”

Advocating for equality and fairness
In addition to onboarding, Brooke is the co-leader of Cummins Asia Pacific First Nations Employee Resource Group (ERG), which is dedicated to advocating for equality and educates staff about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island history and culture.
Recently, Brooke discovered that she is of indigenous descent.
"When I found out about my heritage, it made my passion in advocating for equality and fairness stronger,” said Brooke.
“Leading the ERG, working with our indigenous staff and our partners NASCA (National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy), really fulfills me and helps not only with my own cultural journey of understanding and respect but giving back and sharing my story.”
The ERG was formed from Cummins’ existing Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which provides a framework for organisations to be inclusive in their work and contribute to national reconciliation in Australia.
Through her work with the ERG, Brooke is committed to implementing change to ensure a better workplace for its First Nations employees.
“The changes we make might be small or take time to put into place, but the things we are doing have enduring impact. For instance, the Cultural Awareness Training we provided for our employees has triggered other global regions to start and look at their first nations people and think about how they interact and ensure they have a workplace fit for all.
It’s not a sprint – it’s a marathon.”
