"Plateau"
This week, one of the concepts that I would like to discuss is a status where, as a project manager passionate about operations and my personal health or fitness, this status or momentum can either help me or change the direction of my projects or life. This phase or status is called a "Plateau" (The term "plateau" is often used to describe a situation where progress or growth reaches a stable, relatively unchanging state).
Let’s talk about my personal life. I loved working out almost five days a week. When I started this routine, my goals were different; I aimed to be or look very strong with big muscles. However, after several weeks of working out, there was always a point where I didn’t see any changes in my performance or visual physical appearance. These plateaus, without any changes, made me alter my habits. Sometimes, I would stop my trips to the gym for months, while at other times, I added more hours of exercise. It was only when I understood that a paused point or plateau was a perfect time to review my process, adapt to the new person I had become, and plan for a new future that I realized that the new future could and would bring another plateau.
In business, a similar situation occurs, where we need to allow our strategies and plans to mature. We must let innovations establish the changes they were planned for and then develop an action plan to either modify or reinforce them.
A plateau could occur when we have mastered our current role, task, or way of living, but there's a need for further challenges or learning opportunities to reignite professional development.
