How does "plastic trash" become more fashionable?

This year's World Cup, Messi wears plastic bottles made of jerseys, gallop around the stadium, the World Cup, let fans like me realize that the recycled plastic bottles made of jerseys, sweat fast light weight, both environmentally friendly and fashionable.

According to media reports, the 2014 World Cup, France, the Netherlands, the United States and other 10 national team jerseys, is also made from recycled plastic bottles, the 2016 Olympic Games, the United States men's basketball team's battle gown, is also made of commercial plastic bottles Jersey sponsors. This technology is not a new invention. It was put into large-scale production as early as 2010.

Making green jerseys out of plastic trash has become a common practice, but we haven't realized it yet.

In today's global environmental crisis caused by plastic pollution, "plastic garbage" products labeled as environmental protection have become a fashion.

The more environmental protection, the more fashionable?

In my opinion, environmental protection is an attitude, fashion is an aesthetic. Environmental protection + Fashion = popularity.

1Plastic garbage products are famous in fashion circles.

The plastic battle gowns of the stars have brought "plastic garbage" products into the public eye. In fact, in the fashion circle, "plastic garbage" products are also famous.

Adidas, for example, partnered with Parley for Oceans, a marine environmental group, to launch an eco-friendly concept shoe made from marine plastic waste, the Ultra Boost Uncaged Parley, at the end of 2016.

The upper of the footwear is made of 95% marine plastic and 5% recyclable polyester fiber. The laces, heels and insoles are also made of recycled waste plastic.

On average, each pair of shoes needs 11 plastic bottles to be sold and 1 million pairs to sell. Two times, 11 million plastic bottles were used.

IKEA's products in recent years can also see the shadow of "environmental protection". For example, a chair called Odger, designed with Swedish design studio Form Us WithLove, is made of 70% plastic waste and 30% wood chips and is molded by injection molding.

Parley for the Oceans, along with filter brand Soma and Starbucks, launched a water bottle made from marine plastic waste. At present, this limited edition ocean bottle is only sold in the United States and Canada at a price of 29.95 US dollars.

Designers Vanessa Yuan and JorisVanbriel created EcoBirdy, a brand that specializes in making furniture from recycled plastic. At the Paris Furniture Fair, they launched a series of children's furniture made from recycled plastic toys, which are environmentally friendly and artistically pleasing.

There are many products made of "plastic garbage". As long as you pay attention, environmental protection is around you.

Environmental protection attitude makes fashion more popular.

Eric Lidtke, head of the global brand of Adidas, the German sporting goods giant, announced recently in an interview with the Financial Times  that he planned to phase out the original polyester by 2024.

In addition, Adidas said it would stop using new plastics in its offices, retail stores, warehouses and distribution centers. This will help brands save about 40 tons of plastic every year from 2018.

IKEA said that by 2030, only renewable and recycled materials would be used in all sales.

Volvo has also announced that since 2025, at least 25% of the plastic used in all new Volvo models will come from renewable sources.

Gree Electric, a leading enterprise in the household appliance industry, has invested billions of dollars in China to set up a renewable resources company. Mainly engaged in the recycling and disassembly of waste electronic and electrical products, so that raw materials can be recycled, so as to realize the ecological cycle of the household electrical appliances industry chain.

In addition, Coca-Cola, Unilever, Dell Computer, McDonald's, Starbucks and other major brands are also pursuing the goal of sustainable development.

The concept of "environmental protection" makes the big cards more attractive. "Environmental protection" attitude makes fashion more popular.

"Plastic garbage" products are not cheap.

The products made of plastic waste are still a little expensive. We are not cheap.

The reason for this is that the cost of recycled plastics is not lower than that of virgin plastics.

Adidas said recently that in the spring and summer of 2019 series of clothing production and manufacturing, 41 kinds of materials will be recycled polyester. The performance of regenerated polyester is comparable to that of new polyester, but the price is 10 ~20 pounds higher than that of new polyester.

In fact, in recent years, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, H&M and Adidas and other international companies have gradually used recycled plastics in the production of products. Although the cost of recycled plastics is not lower than the original plastics, the cost is small and high, but the recycling of recycled plastics can promote the development of circular economy, conducive to environmental protection.

Paying a price for environmental protection is also worth it.

Eric Liedtke, director of the Adidas global brand, said recently: "At present, 50% of the 9.2 million items sold by Adidas use this material as the raw material for production, so it will take a while to completely stop using it."

Another reason why Adidas abandons new plastics is that the cost of recycled plastics is 10 to 20 percent higher than that of new plastics.

Eric Liedtke said: "We must ensure that recycled plastics are used progressively as alternatives to control costs. We can share some of the costs each year for six years, but we can't absorb these extra costs quickly in a year.

But industry experts believe that the price gap between renewable and new plastics will disappear in the next few years as more and more companies turn to renewable materials and suppliers improve their ability to mass-produce them.
