Planting for the Future with NYPA's Tree Power Program
New York Power Authority
NYPA is the nation's largest state power organization, serving government, not-for-profit, and business customers.
NYPA's Tree Power campaign encourages NYPA customers to plant trees across New York State. Created in 2016, Tree Power provides 1:1 matches for native trees purchased by the customer. In 2023 Tree Power saw a roughly 17% increase in plantings across the State, accounting for more than 1300 new trees planted by 30 different NYPA customers.
Since its inception, Tree Power has helped remove more than 300 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, mitigating the effects of climate change. The trees also provide habitats and shelter for birds, beneficial insects, butterflies, moths and other wildlife while improving air and water quality and increasing the energy efficiency of the buildings they are planted adjacent to. ?
Around two months ago in East Buffalo, almost 100 trees were planted on streets around local schools and at McCarthy Park. In addition to the trees donated directly by NYPA, this year one of our customers, Father Sam's Bakery, along with the tree vendor Schichtel's Nursery, contributed their own trees.
