Planning to Resign from a Job?
Getting ready to resign from a job? But have multiple questions like-
Whom do you tell first?
How do you tell?
Do you write an email first or talk to your boss?
What will happen next?
Whatever the reason for your exit, the way you resign makes your exit end with grace.
Why should you exit on a good note?
If you leave your company on a good note you not only make your transition smooth, but you also get some added benefits-
-It helps you build credibility throughout your career.
- Leaving the company gracefully and professionally, the senior colleagues and HR might become to be a good reference for you in the future.
- You also increase the chances of your being rehired in the future if you apply.
Here’s what your do-to list should be to resign well and leave on a positive note-
1.??????You should always tell your manager in person first. If you are based in a different location, try communicating over call. It’s best if you avoid communicating first over email.
2.?????Set up a meeting in person and communicate your exit. Always keep your conversation around facts and avoid expressing grievances. Take this opportunity to express what you have gained from the role. Show gratitude to your manager for his time and support for the role.
3.??????Now it’s time to draft an email. Now this email becomes your formal document that states when your notice period begins. Keep your email light and positive. It should include the person to whom it is addressed, the notice, and the date when it is effective. You could also thank your manager for the opportunity you have been given.
4.??????Once your resignation is accepted and relieving day is confirmed you can make your plans to finish your pending work and proper knowledge transfer. You should follow your professional routine. Discuss your work with your boss and complete it both in scope and expectations. You should set up meetings with your replacement and set the agenda for the handling of information.
