Planning is indispensable!

General Eisenhower said, “In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.”

Business is not war, but the analogy is strong.

Business Plans have a poor reputation; often rightly so. Many Business Owners have experienced the drudgery of writing a document two inches thick that is never read again. That process adds zero value.

However, the activity of thinking through essential elements of your business is a vital step in your business start-up and your continuing business journey that shouldn’t be ignored.

Planning is a crucial process of asking the all-important questions about your business, its products/service, its market, its customers etc, gathering information, researching, speaking to customers, analysing trends, and thinking about how to shape your business to meet the needs of your market and to deliver the outcomes you need.

Having a highly visual and informative plan on one page that you have drawn together yourself (and with all of your team) provides strong reinforcement of the purpose of your business, customer value and the direction to take to overall success.

It is an essential activity that is vital for all Business Owners to prioritise, to do and to repeat.

I am currently working with three Business Owners who are conducting business planning for their growth. It is challenging work thinking everything through, but they are really enjoying the process and are excited about the outcome.
