Planning an actual TEDx Event - TEDxBissallaRd

"Is it another investment platform? Biko (Please), no, I don't want to invest or create any new account!"

I couldn't help but giggle at the words of the lady we approached to talk to. Perhaps she has been met by many marketers pitching their products to her, even before we got to her.

That was the response from one of the ladies we approached today as we went into various campuses to further create awareness for the TEDxBissallaRd event.

We chose to go and interact with people today, not just to invite them to our event, but to also let them know of the TEDxBissallaRd event, which I've actively been involved in the planning of it lately.

We went from the Publicity CDS of NYSC Enugu to Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu State University of Technology, and finally the Institute of Management and Technology, where we were able to interact with many students.

This is where I got to understand that the concerns of many people about TED and TEDx events include;

What do we stand to gain from it?

Is it not yet another motivational speaking event?

What happens after the event?

Who is coming around, and why?

And so many more questions, raised by various persons. This was enough reason for us to keep talking more than we could have imagined.

Who is the event for?

TEDx Events are for everyone, particularly, those who are interested in personal development, as well as learning new ways of doing things, which best highlights the TED slogan - Sharing ideas.

Ideas of new innovations, founded on the basis of a researchable and replicable thesis. Ideas based on personal experiences, while figuring out how to solve a problem. Ideas, of a better way of doing things. Ideas about different views of life. Ideas about ideas, if i should say.

Ideas that could be easily implemented.

Who can speak at the event?

Speaking at a TEDx event is not just limited to a certain class of persons. No, think of TEDxYouth events, where all the speakers are clearly youths.

This platform is a platform that is open to ideas, and not age, gender or race based selection procedure.

You could be a speaker at the event. I could be a speaker, your Parents could be a speaker. We just look for that unique idea that you seek to share with people.

What can you gain at the event?

This varies for many persosns, and it comes within the range of;

• Networking opportunities
• Inception and clarity of ideas
• Problem solving, by learning of new ideas or ways to solve problems, take for example, TEDx talk that focus on how to be comfortable with your body size. How to focus. How to overcome low self esteem. How to communicate rightly, and many other skills that is worth being learnt. You name it.
• Getting entertained for sure also. A good learning environment comes with some time for entertainments.

This is the 4th TEDxBissallaRd event in Enugu, and the biggest of all TEDx events in the Southeast of Nigeria, as we're hosting 2000 youths. Care to see a full list of our speakers?

We're calling on meaningful Nigerians who wish to sponsor students to the event, to do so, by sponsoring 10 students, at half the student ticket cost, and still get a VIP ticket for yourself, at a total cost of #15,000 as against the would have been #30,000 total value.

This would go a long way in getting you to help a student, whose life stands to be changed by the new knowledge gained from the speakers at this event.
