Planetiers World Gathering is an event that brings together a network of sustainability experts who are committed to making sustainable innovations more accessible.
As one of the sponsors of this year’s event, which ran from 27 to 29 October in Aveiro, Portugal, Landbell Group created different opportunities to connect and engage with the audience, spreading the word about circular economy solutions and strategies.
Across the three days of the event, the Group made the following contributions:
??? A workshop led by Ana Magri?o (Circular Economy Engineering Manager, Landbell Group) which outlined integrated worldwide solutions to help attendees reduce their businesses’ impact on the planet
??? A presentation by Dora Caria (Chief Procurement Officer, Landbell Group) on a circular economy without boundaries
??? A panel discussion about challenges and targets for extended producer responsibility (EPR), as well as innovative waste management solutions to improve circularity and the volumes and quality of secondary raw materials, and

Environmental compliance
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is nearing completion after years of negotiations. The legislative process was not completed before the EU elections in June, although political agreement was reached.
As a result, the newly elected European Parliament will have to rubber stamp the work of its predecessor in a process known as the corrigendum procedure.
The Parliament’s Legal and Linguistic Service has examined the text and made changes to ensure legal certainty and cohrence.
The revised text will be presented during the November plenary session. If 36 MEPs or more signal dissent, the text could be reopened for renegotiation within the Parliament and with Member States.
Similarly, the legislative process on the Waste Framework Directive (WFD) was not concluded before the European elections.
In this case, the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the European Commission stopped the process before the trilogue negotiations could finalise the amendments, which are due to add requirements for food and textile waste, including the introduction of extended producer responsibility (EPR) for textiles across the EU.
These discussions are expected to start in the coming weeks with the aim of finding a compromise between the positions of Parliament and Member States..

Chemical compliance
On 14 October 2024, the EU Council adopted the revised regulation on the classification, labelling and packaging of chemical substances and mixtures (CLP).
Once signed by the Presidents of the European Parliament and Council, the new CLP regulation will appear in the Official Journal of the EU and enter into force 20 days later.
The legal act introduces significant changes, including:
??? new hazards classes (endocrine disruptors and long-life effect of certain substances)
??? classification rules for More than One Constituent Substances (MOCS)
??? digital labelling and clarification of labelling rules, and
??? adaptation of different forms of trade (online trade and bulk sales at refill stations)
The changes may trigger the need to review and update the classifications, labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for some products. It is best to assess the implications promptly.
