Planet Pharma: Top Tips For Recruiters

Talent Acquisition Lead at Planet Pharma Europe & APAC ?? -We're Hiring! If you're interested in a career at Planet Pharma, get in touch TODAY!!
With over?12 years in recruitment, continuously advancing in her career, and leading a successful team, whilst remaining at the top of her game, Rowena is pretty much a recruitment guru! I asked her to share some pearls of wisdom for recruiters early in their career, on how to become (and remain) a?first-class recruiter.??
This is what she had to say ???
1) Build a strong reputation
If you have chosen Recruitment as your career then it is important to treat it as such, make sure you are building for tomorrow not just for today and always treat everyone as you would expect to be treated yourself. Providing updates to both clients and candidates regularly is critical to build good working relationships, meeting your own timelines and being available to help.
2) Empathise with candidates
Remember that changing jobs is usually a huge life event, you are working with real people and its important to show you care about them. You are doing this for them, not yourself so remember that, it can be easy when first starting recruitment to lose sight of this as you're consumed with your own targets or doing a good job at your new company. Listening is the most important part of a recruiters job so actively listen and respond to what the person you are speaking to is saying.?

3) Organisation is key
Maintaining a good calendar is critical, you will have a lot of conflicting priorities from phone calls, to meetings, interviews and admin, so ensuring you are on top of this will help you to feel in control of your time and also protect your reputation by not missing things you need to do! In addition having a system to stay on top of your emails/ LinkedIn messages is key- you do not want to miss important information! Know yourself and what works best for you and arrange yourself accordingly. Not all recruiters are naturally super organised so this may be a skill you need to work on- just like anything else practice makes perfect!?
4) The phone is your friend
Speaking to people via phone or face to face will always build a better relationship than emails/ texts. Use all forms of technology to communicate effectively but do not let these replace the benefits of actually speaking to people.
5) Understand your market
Keeping up to date with market information, industry trends and the changing landscape of the market you work in is key to provide a great service to both client and candidate. You should proactively continue to learn about your market and stay up to date with news - this is something you will need to do continuously and not just at the start of your recruitment career.??
