Planet Classroom News - Perspectives on Life, Society, and Culture by Global Youth

One in seven 10 to 19 year-olds experiences a mental disorder, accounting for 13% of the global burden of disease in this age group.? Depression, anxiety and behavioral disorders are among the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents, with suicide being the fourth leading cause of death among 15 to 29 year-olds.

As students return to college campuses from winter break, it is increasingly important to raise awareness on the struggles of mental health in today’s youth. The stigma has shifted in recent years with upcoming generations being more vocal about their mental and emotional well-being. Nevertheless, the conversation is only just getting started. Planet Classroom’s youth examine college students’ common feelings of alienation, grappling with mental health on a global scale, and how an environmental education can lead to empowerment.?
