Planes, Trains and Automobiles + AI & IoT = Stress-Free Vacation
The 2024 summer vacation season is winding down, but there are still a few weeks left before September ushers in the full swing of business mode.
In this newsletter, we’ll explore how AI and IoT technologies can contribute to stress-free travel, whether you’ve already returned from your vacation or prefer to extend your holiday into the fall.
We’re also excited to introduce a new format for our newsletters, where we’ll be sharing the latest updates from Euristiq and company news as well. Let’s dive in!
??? The role of AI and IoT in tourism
When exploring AI and IoT applications in tourism online, many examples suggest unrealistic scenarios that seem more science fiction than reality—like IoT-enabled airplanes equipped with sensors to monitor passengers’ body temperature, heart rate, and anxiety levels, or hotels that pre-adjust room conditions based on guests’ preferences before they even arrive.
We're interested in practical, real-world applications that can be implemented today. So in our newsletter, let’s set aside the overly futuristic visions of disruptive technology in travel and focus on what’s possible now.
Vacation planning with AI
With so much in our lives demanding meticulous planning, vacation planning often feels more like a chore than an enjoyable experience.
AI has the tools to change that. Companies like Tripadvisor, Expedia, and Booking.com are already leveraging AI to enhance their services with AI-powered vacation-planning tools, such as AI chatbots that assist in the process.
Additionally, large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, Gemini , and Copilot can significantly simplify vacation planning. Whether you’re searching for destinations, creating itineraries, or translating languages on the go, these tools are invaluable. For instance, Google’s Gemini integrates with Google Flights and Google Hotels, pulling real-time data from partner companies, making it easy to compare schedules and, most importantly, prices.
Smart tourism: Traveling with IoT
It is no secret that IoT has become a game-changer for the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries, significantly enhancing the travel experience through smart navigation, connected transportation, and personalized services.
In this newsletter, we’re focusing on key areas that contribute to a stress-free travel experience: intelligent navigation, smart baggage, and real-time flight information.
Real-time access to flight data at airports is tremendously important. IoT applications in airports can alert travelers to flight changes and provide directions to their gates, making the journey smoother.
And last but not least, let’s talk about smart luggage. Adding IoT tags like Apple’s AirTag to track your suitcase in real time is now a no-brainer. But smart suitcases can do even more—they can come equipped with built-in scales, ensuring you never exceed airline weight limits again.
?? Planning for the next season: What can travel and tourism businesses do now?
If you're in the travel and tourism industry, it's time to explore what disruptive technologies can offer, as they ultimately have the potential to boost your revenue.
In this digital day and age, the key to success is delivering seamless travel experiences that attract more tourists and customers. More tourists mean higher revenue. AI is a powerful tool that can help you achieve this seamless experience efficiently.

?? How can IoT be used in tourism?
Whether you run a hotel, own a travel agency, or offer any travel service, implementing optimization at every level is crucial. While much of this overlaps with AI, let’s focus on how the air travel industry—airlines and airports—can benefit from IoT.
