Every failure can be turned around when you absorb the lessons learned and apply them. Begin by taking responsibility for what happened.?Analyze what occurred.?The, work to make the necessary corrections and apply them to future endeavors. The failure now becomes a laboratory for future success.
The Houston Astros brought the Seattle Mariners’ 14 game winning streak to an end last night in front of a sold-out Seattle crowd.?On the mound for the Astros was Jose Urguidy. Jose had never beaten the Mariners and the last time Jose faced them – only 8 weeks ago – he gave up 12 hits in less than 5 innings for a loss. Last night, Jose held them to 1 run and only 4 hits over 6 innings for the victory.
What changed?
To quote Jose “I was very focused. I studied a lot. I made a good plan. We talked a lot, me and Maldy (his catcher) and the plan was good. I was attacking the zone and throwing everything with conviction and throwing pitch by pitch, hitter by hitter.”
Plan your work, work your plan.
He was focused.?Where you focus, your energy will follow and flow! Always.
He studied.?He took responsibility and fully analyzed and understood previous situations.
He made a plan. He worked to create a new strategy, involved his team, and they knew it was a good plan.
And he executed that plan. WITH CONVICTION.

Don’t miss that last part. “With conviction” was the secret sauce.
Jose analyzed previous situations, took responsibility, created a plan that he and his team fully supported and believed to be good, and then he went out and implemented that plan with total focus and confidence that it would be successful.
THE GOAL NEVER CHANGED. The plan was adjusted to accomplish the goal.
Once implemented, he did not doubt or panic after minor setbacks. He had a solid plan and he worked that plan with focus and conviction. And he was successful.
Plan your work, work your plan. It is not just some catch phrase from a book written in the 20s. It is a sound and proven methodology for success.?It works in sports, in business, and in life.
I challenge you to take this lesson and apply it. Or for many of you – REAPPLY it! I would love to hear of your success.
As always, I wish you nothing but the best!
