The plan was to teach financial literacy but I gained more than I gave!
Earlier this week, a group from St. Luke’s volunteered with Junior Achievement of Idaho at Lewis and Clark Elementary school. We taught job exploration and financial literacy and we were there to inspire kids to dream big and reach their potential.
We discussed, provided examples, and did activities to expand their knowledge on various topics such as innovation, profit, entrepreneurs, free and global markets, and work readiness. For example, my co-teacher and one very brave student demonstrated a mock interview for the class.
It was not our contribution that filled my cup that day. It was the simple reminders that these amazing 5th graders showed that reinforced my moral compass.
- Have courage
- Treat each other’s with respect
- Be your best
- It is okay to not have the answer
- Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody
- Snacks = smiles
- Sometimes we just need a brain-break
- It is good to to help others
Thank you to St. Luke's, Junior Achievement, and Lewis and Clark Elementary!!
If you are interested in filling your cup while inspiring future leaders, I highly recommend this organization. https://www.juniorachievement.org/web/ja-usa/home
