Plan Smarter, Not Harder with AI

After you have gone through the reflection cycle, and as you are going through the planning cycle, save time planning by using artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Last month’s #eMINTS #TipCards series was all about using the instructional planning process to help you plan effectively. Now, we are sharing tips to save you time as you begin planning for your upcoming school year. This month, we delve into five different AI tech tools that can help you do just that: Plan smarter, not harder. The ever-growing number of AI tools create obstacles to learning, but they also create unique learning opportunities for ourselves and our students. And, as Ditch That Textbook author Matt Miller writes, “Students will have to learn how to navigate life with AI” (Miller, 2022).

ChatGPT

First up: ChatGPT! Since its release in November of 2022, @OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been the fastest-growing Internet application ever (Milmo, 2023). While some may reject its educational uses and avoid integrating it into the learning environment, ChatGPT has the capability to save valuable time. Here’s how:

  1. Sign Up or Log In. (Save even MORE time using your @Google account.) https://chat.openai.com/?
  2. Give it a prompt or ask it a question. (Exa. “Write a PBL for 5th-grade math.”)
  3. Watch it work its magic.
  4. Optional: Add more prompts to the same chat to generate further responses and content.
  5. Optional: Return to saved chats in the future (to refresh your memory or to add more to the conversation) by logging back into your account.
