Placement Statistics across the top 10 US schools (Class of 2023)

The top 10 schools listed in this article are as per the USNEWS 2024 rankings. The placement data, however, is for the class of 2023. At the time of this writing, the placement data for the class of 2024 has not been compiled yet. (Likely by September 2024)

The top three recruiting industries across business schools are:

  1. Consulting
  2. Finance (and)
  3. Technology.

This is not surprising - these have been the biggest recruiters for the past several years.

As you can see, consulting is still one of the top recruiters across schools, with about 45% of the class at Darden finding positions in consulting. The numbers reported are the percentage of the students seeking placements who were placed in consulting.

How have placement trends changed over the years? Let's look at the data for the number of students placed at Booth over the years. Assuming placement percentages are relatively stable, this is a valid proxy for the number of students enrolled in the school in that particular class:

Number of students seeking recruitment at Booth (proxy for total enrollment)

At least at Booth, it is observed that the class of 2022 showed a visible spike in the number of students seeking recruitment. This can be attributed to the fact that the class of 2022 had more students enrolled courtesy of the confusion during the COVID year (when schools received many requests for deferrals and so had to admit more candidates)
