Placemaking in Cambridge: How Cities and Local Business Communities Can Work Together

Wendell Joseph, Neighborhood Planner in the Community Development Department of the City of Cambridge, and Michael Monestime, Executive Director of the Central Square Business Association, will offer an in-depth look at Central Square and how cities and their local business communities can work together. They will share insights on their joint efforts in Central Square to improve this special part of Cambridge for all its users. Their placemaking kit of parts includes the arts and culture, business as well as public space improvements.
The Central Square Business Association (CSBA) aims to maintain and support a lively business environment and enhance the experience of the Central Square Cultural District. The CSBA advocates for and represents the interests of businesses while contributing to a welcoming, unique, and energetic neighborhood for residents, business owners, and visitors alike. The Community Development Department's mission is to enhance the character and diversity of the city's neighborhoods and support sustainable economic growth that expands opportunities for residents, enables a high quality of life within the community, and contributes to a healthy environment.
