The PJ

PJ is not a Technical term. It’s not a medical or epidemiological term. It’s not a new brand of hand soap. It's not a new vaccine either. It means Pajama. Myself and countless others are working in PJs. Working from home for some may be working in PJ. Wear them. Wash them. Wear again. Wash again. Wear them. This is like a DNA sequence. Some of my PJs faded. Color just disappeared. After some time, I am sure to see some holes here and there. Some PJs have been cast away for donating. I removed them from the bags started wearing and washing.

I don’t think people will have loads of PJs in their closet. It’s a night thing. Now it’s’ a dress code for some who work-from-home day-in day-out. For Video calls, you can just change the top to some thing formal. Put on some makeup. You are done.

I am sure for many people PJs mean relaxation. Watching TV. Eating chips. Postponing everything. Just being a zombie. Imagine working in PJ every day. Its dreadful and frustrating. Picture a family wearing PJs. That will be shocking.

Working in PJs. Eating in PJs and sleeping in PJs. Don’t be alarmed. PJ people may be more productive as they do not follow a 24-hour clock. They don’t follow a regimen. They work all the time. Might eat all the time too. Not a good idea right now. Save food. We are all on a forced diet. Who knows?..We might shed few pounds.

I wonder whether people are buying any formal clothes. Doesn’t make sense to buy until office going starts. We can live with PJs till then.

What happens after we successfully outsmart Coronavirus? Does the PJs remain? Most likely, Carona PJs will stay. Normalcy is an acquired habit. Exception is disruption of habits that comes and goes leaving new habits.

 We will be talking in terms of B.C (Before Caronavirus) and A.C (After Caronavirus). This is a milestone in the history of mankind. We might become more and more nuclear.

 All this is not surprising. Things change. People change. Working style changes. Social distancing makes us more nuclear. We might become more germophobic. A small virus which we cannot see with our naked eye made us kneel. We realized that we are not the only powerful predators and parasites. We will kill and outgrow the virus. We can relate this to Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection.

Coming back to “Washing and wearing PJs”, let’s hope we will be shopping for colorful dresses in few months. Eating out, meeting, gathering….basically throwing the social distancing through the window. Loving and celebrating. Knowing each other.
