Pizza glue and search hullabaloo ??
Welcome to the 82nd edition of this fine newsletter. If you've been reading this from the beginning, you probably deserve a badge, if you're new to this newsletter and were expecting a badge, it's not a no, more a no right now.
For context, I'm currently full of a cold, sat in a park at a 5 year-olds birthday party wishing brought a jumper, with only the fast movement of my fingers, a coffee and occasional breaks of sunshine to keep me warm. Happy 1st of June everyone.
Yes, Google AI is the thing that keeps giving and not in a good way. It maybe old news, but the people of the internet does what it does and broke Google's AI search with little effort. So, go eat glue covered pizza and make sure you chomp on a rock a day whilst you can, because they'll fix it and we'll be ever closer to Google Zero.
What is Google Zero I hear you ask ??
My name for that moment when Google Search simply stops sending traffic outside of its search engine to third-party websites.
Nilay Patel, editor-in-chief of the Verge. You can read more about it here.
Of course, if this comes to pass and Nilay Patel believes it is already here, then what? It almost makes the massive Google Search leak kinda irrelevant. BTW, if you want a run down of what was leaked, I'd recommend this excellent post by Andrew Charlton . Though there are of course many many others if you want to go deeper.
In short, lot's of things they said they didn't do, the do... do. So, if you're a business that is heavily reliant on search traffic for leads and sales, should you be worried and what are the alternatives?
Not a question I'm going to be able to answer in a park but it does become a paradoxical situation. Previously, there was a two way relationship that wasn't always 50/50 but worthwhile enough to carry on with. Plus, the added bonus of Google's near dominance of search.

Now, with the possibility of Google Zero on search, (it's already been here for a long time to some limited extent with voice assistants). What value does Google search now have to businesses across the global?
Google Search hasn't been in good health for a while now anyway, nor has the amount of adverts on YouTube, as I now probably see less adverts on ITV during Britain's Got Talent these days. You can read more about this in my recent May the ensh*ttification be with you! ?? edition.
What still cuts through is real world stuff like videos. Like this segway to the #PitchSlap Outtakes (below) that I filmed and edited. The original #PitchSlap video did even better. Perhaps because I used less fonts. IDK ??♂?
Anyway, it's time for the cake and I'm sat on the table next to the cake. It looks homemade, so I'm just hoping that they didn't use Google's AI search to get a recipe.
I'm off to eat cake and chat to some parents before going home for a nap and then eating my daily recommended number of rocks.
I'll leave you with Coffeezilla's rather shocking dive into the history of the Rabbit R1. I'd watch both videos as it gets worse because what they promised and what they delivered are not the same thing. Alongside the Humane pin, first mover advantage has not worked out well for either and for different reasons.
AI is the future, that I'm sure of, for better or worse. How we get there and what that future looks like, there's many more bumps in the road to come.
