Pivoting

Over the past, almost 3 years, I've been on a journey to learn, embrace, and coach my teams using the Agile methodology. I'm still a newbie in the realm of such philosophy (and yes, I view it as a philosophy), but it's the first thing in a very long career that has piqued my learning muscle.

But this post isn't about Agile, per say, but about the idea that you're never too old to find something that excites you in your career. Pivoting is not just a funny scene in a Friends episode, and often, it's much easier than what's happening in that scene.

I turned 60 last July. I'm as old as the old people I use to see on the elevators going up to my first job at Bayer Bess Vanderwarker. I am them, with one big difference. They looked tired. They looked every late night hour they ever spent in that office. They looked ready to retire.

I don't.

I'm energized. I'm ready. I'm rejuvenated.

And this new journey, it uses all of my past skills, all of my learnings, all of my experience and flips it on its head and fills me with positivity.

Thank you to my guides in this journey, but most of all to Bob Galen ????, whose leadership class gave me the permission to unleash that part of me that was "there" but I was too timid to invite it to the fore. Life is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the change that scares you, hug it into submission. Don't be one of those tired, defeated old people you use to see on the elevator... be the energized, positive example for that young person who gets on your elevator.
