Pivot & Turn - A Necessary Resilience Ready Skill

Pivot & Turn - A Necessary Resilience Ready Skill

Are you prepared to redirect your efforts when you are faced with the unexpected? I refer to the redirection as a 'pivot and turn' experience. To be "Resilience Ready" is to be flexible and when necessary able to pivot and turn.

According to the American Psychological Association, people who are able to 'pivot and turn' are better able to maintain motivation to attain their goals when faced with a setback.

"When you learn to 'pivot and turn' - you redirect your efforts and discover new opportunities."

Expect the Unexpected - When it happens be willing to pivot and turn. Consider the following situations and how you can 'pivot and turn' to achieve success:

Job Loss:

  • Evaluate your skill sets and determine what skill sets are transferrable across industries
  • Retool your skill sets. Learn new skills to enhance what you can offer to a new employer.

Health Challenges:

  • Obtain information about your circumstance and what is and is not possible. If a change in your lifestyle is required - then just DO IT.
  • Continue to learn about your circumstance and be willing to try new things.

Unexpected Opportunities:

  • Determine if the opportunity presented is right for you. If it is find out what needs to happen to move forward.
  • Know that new opportunities may require a 'pivot and turn' in the way you do things. Be open to change. Be open to learning new things.

In today's rapidly changing world, it is important to be "Resilience Ready". Your ability to 'pivot and change' may be critical to success.

Th!nk Possibilities!!!

Learning to 'pivot and turn' can help you to stay motivated and focused no matter what challenges come your way. Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments. Encourage others to read "Resilience Ready" and join the conversation.

Great article! It’s either “Pivot & Turn” or fall in & give up. There are so many life obstacles my husband and I have faced and are facing. His words are “we’re going to figure it out, watch” and I respond “yes, we are…God is helping us”.
