The Pivot

The most valuable professional lesson that I've ever learned is that if something is not working in your career you must pivot as soon as you can.
The consequences of not pivoting when things aren't going well are dire. Years can be spent in a bad situation that could have easily been fixed, with a boss that you hate, or doing something that you thoroughly don't enjoy.
Many people can go their whole lives believing they do not have the power to pivot when they do.??
If you sit around in a bad career situation and all you do about it is complain to your family and friends, it is high time that you take action. If you are in this situation, and you know if you are, you must pivot, and you must do it as soon as possible.
Anything different would be a waste of your precious life.
Pivoting can mean a lot of different things in the workplace. Here are some examples:
The reasons for pivoting can also vary:
In 2017, I made my pivot. I left a company that had become toxic. The truth was I should have left much sooner but I loved my team and loved my office, but there came a point where that was no longer enough.??
The day I decided to make a change I was driving to downtown DC about to meet my 15th Executive Vice-President in 8 years (yes you read that right). There is a long story of what happened at that moment and what would follow (if you want to know the full story let me know and I will share it next time).?
The bottom line, I was badly in need of a pivot, with a damn good reason, and I did.
Most people don't think they can pivot that easily. They think that it takes some kind of courage that they don't possess. They're all wrong.

If you are in a bad situation at work, you must take action immediately to pivot and make better things happen, or they never will.

3 年Yes leaving a toxic environment is definitely a pivot more people should take. I watched a dear friend of mine in their toxic work environment for 3 years before they finally chose to leave. After they were out of that environment, they said they couldn’t believe how long they had tolerated that work position. They told me I saved their life and wished they had listened sooner than they did. I believe they had just become accustomed to it. It always starts small, so small that you brush it off. What one doesn’t realize is that these small things when not addressed, turn into big things. Make your pivot as soon as you notice the environment has become toxic. Great advise!!!
