Pittsburgh is Stronger than Hate

Thoughts and prayers to the families impacted by yesterday’s mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood.

"We woke up to the terrible news this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and families affected by what happened this morning," Penguins star Sidney Crosby said from Vancouver, British Columbia, where the team is playing the Canucks. "Knowing Pittsburgh, I know we'll stick together and rally around them and be there to support and help in any way we can."

A moment of silence was held before the start of Game 4 of the World Series in Los Angeles between the Dodgers and Red Sox.

Jerome Bettis, “Praying for the congregations, the Pittsburgh communities, the Squirrel Hill neighborhood, the first responders and our leadership, as they find a way to come together and hold each other up during the horrific event that took place at Tree of Life this morning.”

Matthew D. Neal, MD – “Hardest day ever as a trauma surgeon - but the heroism of @PghPolice who ran into the fight to save lives was the most motivating force imaginable. Beneath the sadness I have so much pride for our heroes.” @PghPublicSafety. @CityPGH @billpeduto @PghPoliceChief #TreeOfLifeSynagogue

Henry Winkler – “MAY THE TREE OF LIFE in your community, grow stronger and taller and in peace…the country is heartbroken for ALL of you…”

Duquesne President Ken Gormley – “The Duquesne University community is devastated and terribly saddened over the shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in the city’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood. Many of our students, faculty, staff and administrators have friends and family in the congregation and in the neighborhood and have attended services there. My own family members live within blocks of this synagogue, and I have attended services at this beautiful place of worship over the years. As a Catholic university, we are especially disturbed and disheartened that a religious institution was targeted. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the victims, police officers, members of the congregation and the entire Jewish community…”

Hate is what causes events like Squirell Hill. The desire for love and peace will help us to avoid the horrors of our past!

I am with you! We act so much “against” something; it’s time to act “pro”... pro life and understanding, acceptance and tolerance, patience and love.
