Pitfalls of Virtual Learning, Part 6 of 10-No Host

Virtual learnings are a mainstay of the training environment. They can be an effective, even cool, alternative to an ILT (Instructor Led Training). But they require the same strategizing and planning as any other technique. There are 10 pitfalls that are guaranteed to sink a virtual learning implementation if not anticipated and addressed. Each week I’ll feature one of the pitfalls.

This week: Not using a host.

One approach to free up facilitators to focus on facilitation is to have a producer or host who can operate the platform, address technical issues and keep things running smoothly. Ideally, this host should be the aforementioned platform expert. Experienced and technologically proficient facilitators can potentially serve as their own hosts, but even they can benefit from having a host who can help manage and direct the session and lighten the workload so facilitators can keep their undivided attention on learners’ needs.
