The Pitfalls of Self-diagnosis!
We often get contacted by customers who tell us exactly what they want fixed and ask for a quote. We always respond the same way: We will first do a thorough check-up of the car, identify the problem ourselves, and then give a quote. Sometimes, people conclude that we do this just to thrust extra service charge on to them, but this couldn’t be further from the truth! More often than not, your diagnosis is inaccurate, and the actual fix is cheaper than what you suggested in the first place. We try our best not to let you waste money on unnecessary replacements!
We got a call from the owner of this Skoda, who believed his AC compressor had conked and wanted to have it replaced. As usual, we asked him to bring his car in and checked it ourselves.
As it turns out, there was nothing wrong with the compressor. His AC high-pressure switch was faulty. We replaced the leaky switch, refilled the refrigerant, and the car was good to go!
If we’d blindly obeyed his instructions, he would have been handed a much higher bill, and the problem would have remained unresolved.
Unfortunately a lot of unethical garages take advantage of this tendency of customers.
???? ????????'?? ?? ?????? ?????? ?????? ?????? ????????????: tell your service people your problem, not what you think the solution is. Let them examine and find out the cause. It is irrelevant what you read in a forum or what some other technician told you: Self-diagnosing doesn’t work and may cause you damage. You wouldn’t do it with a doctor, so don’t do it for your car. Let the expert do his job!
