Returning to work after an extended maternity leave can be a challenging and emotional journey. For many mums, the thought of transitioning from being a full-time parent to a working professional brings anxiety, particularly when faced with updating a long-neglected CV and preparing for interviews after years away.
There's lots of great advice out there?on what to do if you’re thinking of going back to work after a career break. But no one really tells you what NOT to do!
So here are a few pitfalls to avoid, to stop the ‘going back to work’ process from becoming a hugely stressful experience:
Don’t Underestimate Yourself:?It’s natural to lose confidence during a career break, but never lose sight of everything you achieved before you became a mum and all the skills you've gained during?motherhood. You’re still a capable and resourceful woman!
Don’t Be Afraid to Reinvent Yourself:?Motherhood may have shifted your interests or uncovered new skills, so don't be scared to explore new career opportunities that align with your current passions.
Don’t Rush Into Things:?Take time to reflect on what you truly want in a job and how it aligns with your strengths. Self-discovery is key to finding a fulfilling career path after a break.
Don’t Be Scared to Learn New Skills:?Your skills might need refreshing, but there are plenty of online courses to help you update or acquire new ones. Stay current to increase your employability.
