Have you ever wondered how many books are published each year? Depending on where you get your information from, the number varies.
According to TonerBuzz.com, “Figures range from?500,000?to?one million?books published annually.?However, if you include self-published authors you’re looking at close to?4 million?new book titles published each year.”
Wordsrated.com indicates that “As of November 23rd, 2021, there have been 2,4650,286 new book title published this year.”
Let’s split the difference and use the figure 2,500,000. By anyone’s account, this is a substantial number of books being published.
Further, Wordsrated stated as of 2019, the four major book publishers in the US were responsible for publishing:

Although these numbers are impressive, most authors never sell many books at all.

CHALLENGES AUTHORS FACE
?
The greatest challenge for most authors is not writing their book. Additionally, with so many publishing options available, publishing is not the issue. The greatest challenge is marketing.
There’s one simple reason; most authors don’t know how to market, nor do they hire anyone to help them. The great majority of authors use “hope” as their marketing strategy.
“Hope” is not a strategy.?Strategic planning and action is a strategy.
FACT:?Authors need to promote themselves and their books… if they want to sell books.
There’s no way around this; if you want to get your books in the hands of readers you have to be at the helm of your book promotions.
Another fact is: the more people who read your book, the more back-end opportunity you experience.

1001 WAYS TO MARKET YOUR BOOKS

One of my “go to” resources for book marketing ideas is a long-time favorite,1001 Ways to Market Your Books.
Even though the title indicates there are 1001 ways to market your book, likely a few dozen will get you the results you “hope” for.
1001 Ways to Market Your Book author, John Kremer, has worked with some of the most successful authors in the world and is responsible for otherwise unknown books becoming New York Times bestselling books.

ONE OF THE BEST PROMOTIONAL STRATEGIES
?
Although there are literally over 1,000 ways to market your books, one of the most effective, and far reaching, is to be interviewed on podcast shows.
Podcast shows have a long shelf life. Simply put, you can do an interview today and it could still be popular years from now.
On many occasions, I’ve received Google alerts about an interviews I did months, even years ago.
Some go as far back as a decade. Regardless of the fact these interviews were conducted years ago, if your interviews are evergreen, you can still promote them.
Here’s what to do.

The show is one of hundreds I have done. I treat each one as the only one. What this means is I do all I can to get word out I was on a show. The more I do this, the more the host appreciates the fact they had me on the show.
I encourage you to do the same when you appear on a show.

MEDIA PAGE IS SOCIAL PROOF
?
Show hosts want to make sure that who they have on their show is minimal risk. What this means is that whomever they invite on will do a great job. One way to put a host’s mind at ease is with social proof. Posting permalinks on your?Media Page?from shows you’ve been on is great social proof.
However, don’t let the fact you’re new to doing podcast interviews stop you from doing so. Even those of us with hundreds, even thousands of interviews to our credit started as newbies. Something to remember is this; the more interviews you do, the more interviews you do. And, you have to begin right where you’re at.
