Pitch only if you have to

Putt when you can, chip when you can't and pitch only when you have to. Remember, the bigger the swing, the bigger the miss. The addition of the wrist and elbow hinge around the green generates a tremendous amount of club head speed; often far more than is necessary for the ball to carry the desired distance. The result is often the dreaded chunked/chili dipped shot or the bladed shot, both of which add an additional 1-2 shots to the score...per hole.
Going back to the chipping clock, once you have practiced your varied stroke sizes with all of your wedges and 9 iron, which have the requisite loft to create a pitch shape, focus on the hip to hip stroke size. You can stick with your putting stroke "chip stroke" out to 30, 40 or 50 yards - you won't know until you try.
Expand your putting stroke into your fuller shots and enjoy the accuracy and lower scores that will come with matching the right shot with the right club with the right swing.
