PITCH: Collision Startup Competition

Collision Conference took place virtually this year (June 23rd to 25th). Among a variety of development opportunities (mentoring, masterclasses...) offered to startups, the pitching competition is probably the one that gives most visibility. 50 startups were selected to pitch in group rounds during weeks leading to the event. The semifinals' sessions happened during the conference and included 7 startups from the previous round, plus 3 others pre-selected by the organization (https://collisionconf.com/startups/pitch).

Only 3 moved on to the final round, representing completely different business segments: Compliance, Medtech and Coaching. They delivered a 3 minutes presentation in front one a panel, without Q&A. Here is a summary:

Sym (https://symops.com/): A solution to empower development teams that work in a compliance environment (standards like GDPR, HIPAA…). It helps software engineers to create privacy and security workflows by providing a library of pre-built blocks and templates. Their vision is to create an automation layer, which will allow compliance evidence to be recorded and enable de-facto certification.  

GlucoActive (https://gluco-active.com/): Around 10% of the world population suffers from diabetes (WHO), a large part of it being undiagnosed. This startup has developed a non-invasive laser-light glucometer that eliminates the inconvenience of finger pricks. Their business model is based on licensing and subscription. Their 3 devices being tested and certified. The future vision includes devices for measuring other blood parameters. 

Orai (https://www.orai.com/): Role-playing is a more effective way to train sales representatives, as they tend to forget what they learn using traditional methods. Orai creates scenarios that allow individuals to practice by themselves and get immediate feedback generated by artificial intelligence, including a dashboard breaking down each performance element of the presentation. Sales training is a huge market and they are focusing on enterprise customers.

Among these 3 innovative startups, the winner of this year’s PITCH competition is GlucoActive, confirming the positive trend of health-tech.
