Pistons, Passions and Pleasures meets Petabytes, Partitions and Performance
It’s been a racing month for me; back on October 23rd I attended my first ever movie premiere in Leicester Square, watching A Sicilian Dream, produced by my neighbour Dave Biggins and today I was invited to Monza, Italy to review a Delphix Workshop delivered by Ugo Pollio.
Following a speed theme, the Delphix team in Italy delivered a workshop to partners and prospects. Ugo showed us the racing line for data and shared some secrets of the high performance Delphix Engine, which can deliver databases efficiently, economically and faster than a speeding go-kart! It was fitting that the day was rounded off with two teams racing for glory. The modern karts were an eye-opener from my last kart-racing event, which was a noisy and smelly affair in Amsterdam where I celebrated the building of a telephone banking system for ABN Amro bank – yes sometime ago back in 1997! The cars today were a lot more efficient, a lot quieter and a lot less polluting. Lean, keen and green, not unlike the Delphix Engine, delivering data as a service by sensibly and efficiently sharing data in a smart and innovative way, putting paid to up to 90% of the storage requirements of traditional data platforms and lifting the inertia of massive databases that stifle productivity. Delphix puts your application development teams back in the fast lane.
Sadly, though I was part of the race, my teammate managed to slam into me as I over-steered on the first bend attempting to outmanoeuvre our Sales Manager. It was a crash I never recovered from, unlike a database crash, which a Delphix Virtual Database can deliver a fast recovery from!
Pictured below is the well deserved winner of the race, who beat Delphix’s very own racing driver (Mauro Trione) to take the chequered flag.
Thoughtfully I managed to pop round to Dave’s house on Sunday evening and was able to present our Delphix Monza winner with a book and DVD of the Belle Epoque of Italian racing and the Targa Florio. I hope that the attendees had a great day and will head back to their respective companies to share the secrets of going from zero to Terabytes in less than 60 seconds!
