Welcome back to this week’s edition of our newsletter, Pipeline-Picks! Last week’s newsletter focused on some of our most frequently asked questions, so we though this week we’d explain more about the unions we stock!
This not only helps you to decide which union is best for you, but to also understand what the differences between each of them.
So, what do we stock?
We offer 7 different types of union to suit a variety of processes and applications.
RJT unions , known as Ring Joint Type unions, are probably the most popular union in the UK for hygienic processing. These unions are manufactured to a British standard BS4825 and are readily available from 1” to 4”.
RJT unions are perfect for budget friendly applications and applications that require a forgiving union.
Similarly to the RJT union both IDF and ILC unions consist of a hexagonal nut. IDF unions (International Dairy Federation) have a thicker nut than the RJT unions. This increases the union’s security and reduces the forgiveness.
IDF and ILC fittings are suited for applications where CIP is used and are available in a range of sizes from stock!

The last of our unions that are manufactured to BS4825 is our Clamp unions. Some of you may have already seen our post on clamp fittings last week, but these unions are perfect for applications that require frequent maintenance or relocation! Clamp unions are quick and easy to dismantle and are available in a huge range of sizes. From ?” to 12”, we stock it all!
Although we carry multiple unions to suit British standards, we also offer 2 types of unions to suit metric sizes. Widley used to suit European applications, we offer SMS fittings to suit metric sizes and DIN fittings to suit both imperial and metric!
Both of these unions are comprised with a round nut and are commonly used for machines that have been manufactured overseas, in places like Sweden (SMS) or Germany (DIN)!
Whilst all the above unions are sealed with a joint ring, we do stock 1 union that has a metal to metal seal...
ACME unions do not consist of? rubber joint rings, meaning they’re resistant to breakage or wear, ensuring durability throughout applications. Removing the rubber from the union can also provide a more secure seal!
Our ACME fittings are available to shop online in sizes 1” to 4”!
