PIPE CONVEYOR - WILL IT BE?

PIPE CONVEYOR - WILL IT BE?

When I saw the photo above of the Pipe Conveyor with tarps positioned below it, I made some assumptions:

1 - That it was not a Pipe Conveyor. It seemed to be, however could be new technology of “Helical Pipe Conveyor”, since the upper tube rotated causing the coal to fall along the conveyor. Why would someone design something like that? I do not know the answer!

2 - I thought that this equipment was installed in Afghanistan, and due attack of some man-bomb, it could have damaged the equipment.

When I see something like that, I need to mock the facts so we can move on, but let's try to understand this picture above.

1 - The fact is that the tubular belt rotates and allows the material to fall. This can occur because:

1.1 - There is no adjustment on the roller supports to align the belt!

1.2 - The belt does not have enough stiffness to maintain the stability of the tube!

1.3 - The take-up system is not well dimensioned!

1.4 - The belt overlap length has not been well defined!

1.5 - Early damage to the belt due to design failures may have caused an early decrease in belt stiffness!

1.6 - Lack of expertise the manufacturer and / or lack of knowledge to perform maintenance!

1.7 - Other situations, which only after evaluation of the project and on-site inspection by specialist can be determined.

2 - Neglect of the company that operates and maintains which, even with the problem occurring, instead of taking the correct measures to solve the problem in the equipment, adopted the placement of tarpaulins on the ground, as if it were possible in a region of strong winds to avoid the contamination of coal in the region, so that the coal pond appeared as pictured below.

3 - Neglect of the environmental organism of the government of this country, the press, environmental ONGs, its population, that do not take legal measures, do not divulge, and allow the solution "tarps on the ground" as something feasible. Is this country really at war, is it really in Afghanistan?

As an engineer, I am ashamed to know that the companies involved in this case despise real engineering and mock the world with bad solution and leave the government of that country, the press and environmental OGNs in a delicate situation.
