Pioneering River Digital Twin? Innovation AND Optimal Survey Season Insights

September marked an exciting leap forward in the development of the River Digital Twin? (RDT) technology. The development team are currently pushing boundaries, bringing the (RDT) into Unity software for advanced interactive models. This will provide a huge scope of projects with accuracy and hyper intelligent data that will produce immersive and accurate visualisations for Storm's client unrivalled by any other survey company in the UK. This exciting progress will be available in coming months so do watch out for more announcements on our socials.

Early in September a team of surveyors led by Senior Surveyor Jon Teall, mobilised at very short notice to a site where a supporting wall had collapsed into the watercourse. Storm's expert skills were required to take precise measurements in order that a model of the scouring effects on the river bed could be made. This project posed several challenges to Storm's most experienced team, discover more in the case study.

Meanwhile another survey team ventured to the River Kennet and some of its tributaries to produce an accurate and comprehensive channel survey. The most technically demanding aspect of this job was capturing a curved weir/ bridge structure on a section of the river. The projection of a curved structure on a 2D face is tricky to represent in hydraulic modelling and therefore extra thought and client collaboration was needed from sitee. Find out how the survey team overcame this challenge in the case study.

Two of Storm's newest trainees undertook their DEFRA Level 2 Water Safety Training. James and Henry spent two days in the experienced hands of trusted trainers Bristol Maritime Ltd gaining this mandatory qualification so they are now able to safely assist on survey projects.
