Pioneering Progress: Eco-Forward Central Zone Corridor Initiative

The Greenfield Corridor Project, an ambitious initiative led by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, is set to transform the transportation infrastructure in the Central Zone of India. With seven key corridors spanning across the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, the project aims to boost connectivity, trade, and economic growth in the region.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (partially in Madhya Pradesh)

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, a portion of which runs through Madhya Pradesh, is a flagship project under the Greenfield Corridor initiative. This expressway will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities, facilitating faster movement of goods and people. The project will also spur economic development along the route, creating job opportunities and attracting investments in the state.

Raipur - Visakhapatnam Corridor (partially in Chhattisgarh)

The Raipur - Visakhapatnam corridor, partially traversing through Chhattisgarh, is another crucial project in the Central Zone. This corridor will enhance connectivity between the states of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, boosting trade and commerce. The improved infrastructure will also attract investments in various sectors, contributing to the economic growth of the region.

Durg Raipur Arang Corridor (Chhattisgarh)

The Durg Raipur Arang corridor in Chhattisgarh will connect the major industrial and commercial hubs of the state, facilitating seamless transportation and reducing travel time. The improved connectivity will attract investments, create job opportunities, and contribute to the state's economic growth.

Other Significant Corridors

Other significant corridors in the Central Zone include the Solapur - Kurnool - Chennai corridor, partially in Maharashtra; the Indore - Hyderabad corridor, partially in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra; the Kota - Indore (Garoth to Ujjain) corridor, partially in Madhya Pradesh; and the Kota - Etawah Expressway, partially in Madhya Pradesh. These corridors will create a robust transportation network, enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic development.

The Greenfield Corridor Project promises a transformative impact on transportation infrastructure in central India. By establishing new expressways and highways, the project will facilitate smoother and more efficient movement of goods and people across the region, alleviating congestion on existing roads and reducing travel times significantly. Moreover, the emphasis on green technologies and sustainability in the project aligns with the growing global consciousness towards environmental conservation, potentially reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner modes of transport. Overall, the Greenfield Corridor holds immense promise for enhancing connectivity, fostering economic growth, and promoting eco-friendly transportation practices in central India.

Indeed great effort but if it it is at the cost of deforestation, environmental impact must have been assessed I believe.

Dear Prof Kashyap, Your insights on the development of the road corridors have been very enlightening. You have been highlighting the enormous advantages that can accrue from the connectivities of these corridors, but you have not added one more prospect that I had mentioned to you on the development of satellite townships along these corridors on low cost lands making housing and civic infrastructure facilities affordable to the common people while also decongesting the present urban areas (cities and towns). So then these roads would not only facilitate decongesting the traffic but also the cities themselves which would enable development of not only towns but also the villages greatly cutting off the unwanted migrations from villages to urban areas. This idea, I have been mooting ever since the Outer Ring Road was being constructed at Hyderabad when I was posted here as the head of Infrastructure & Heavy civil projects in 2002.? I suggest Institutions like yours should take this as a joint research program in collaborations with Industry professionals (such as me) to submit a white paper to the Governments and the ministries.
