The Pioneer of Revolutionary E-vehicles
Have you ever sent an email to a corporate magnate such as Mukesh Ambani or Ratan Tata? And did you get a response from them? Hemalatha's story begins with an email she sent to Ratan Tata that went unanswered.
Ratan Tata, on the other hand, did respond. That email was on the necessity, with an emphasis on electric vehicles. Ampere is an electric mobility firm that designs, develops, produces, and markets battery-operated EVs for individual transportation, industrial purposes, and materials moving e-bikes, e-twos, e-threes, and custom-built EVs. It was founded in 2008 by first-generation entrepreneur Annamalai.
Of course, every great man has a lady at his side, but Ratan Tata, as the company's founder and CEO, is the driving force behind Hemalatha Annamalai's Ampere Vehicles success.
In 2010, she was named the 'Best Product Design' for the Disabled by the Tamil Nadu State Commission for the Differently Abled. She has also received recognition for her environmental initiatives, including the 'Best Eco-friendly Company' award from the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's national movement, Lead India 2020, in 2012.
Ampere's revenues in the fourth quarter of FY21 were Rs 68 crore. It sold 27,310 units in FY21, up 19% from 22,918 units the previous year.
In the fourth quarter of last year, Ampere sold 10,075 units, up 69 percent over the previous year. Ampere now has a network reaching 260 towns and cities across the country, thanks to the addition of 132 new dealers.
