Is Pinterest A Stress Reliever?

Did you hear the news? Pinterest is looking to set itself apart from other social media platforms by focusing on positive and beneficial experiences (can you imagine?). According to a new study with UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, using Pinterest for just 10 minutes a day helped Gen Z college students mitigate their burnout and stress.


The study was a bit unusual - participants were either assigned to use Pinterest or solve online jigsaw puzzles for the same amount of time over two weeks. The researchers found that those who used Pinterest experienced less stress and anxiety as the exam period approached, while also increasing their social connectedness.

Pinterest is already jumping on this study to highlight the ways that it’s different from the other, larger social media networks. Of course, if they wanted to do that, maybe they should have compared their platform to other social media and not jigsaw puzzles.


Regardless of flaws in the study, we do appreciate seeing a social media platform focus on positive, healthy interactions, rather than just raw engagement.?
