?? A SAFER PINTEREST EXPERIENCE FOR KIDS ??
Pinterest is placing greater emphasis on creating a safe space for teens and adding more safeguards for children on its platform. Accounts for users under 16 are private by default and hidden from search. A "no contact without consent" policy allows kids to share their content with people they know. Those not given permission will be unable to view the content or add comments, reducing the risk of unsolicited contact. To promote a positive environment, Pinterest is taking a stand against body shaming comments, weight loss ads, and fake beauty filters. They also have a partnership with the National Eating Disorders Association to support body positivity and mental health. Additional verification is required for users who change their age from under 18 to over 18 to prevent kids from circumventing the policies.
?? SNAP'S CRYSTALS: A NEW WAY TO EARN ??
Snap Inc. is amping up creator monetization with its "Crystals " system. As creators captivate their audience with engaging content, they earn Crystals, which can be cashed out for real money. In a recent virtual session hosted by Rich Greenfield , creators Savannah Demers and King Bach raved about the incredible revenue potential of Crystals. King Bach shared that mid-level creators could potentially earn more on Snap than on platforms like YouTube. He has talked to some creators who are making over six figures a week! Of course, not every creator will get their hands on Crystals. Snap awards the coveted Crystals to creators who submit top Snaps. Payment is determined by a proprietary formula that factors in engagement metrics and more.
?? META'S LAYOFFS IMPACT CREATOR SUPPORT ??
Meta's decision to lay off creator support teams has resulted in inadequate support, forcing creators to pay for a verified service to get support for their Facebook and Instagram accounts. The requirement to use real names during the verification process has raised privacy concerns, with some creators being doxxed . On a brighter note, Meta is working to expand the Reels monetization program, introduce new editing tools, and provide insights to help creators succeed. However, we believe that Meta must prioritize rebuilding trust with creators, enhance transparency surrounding their monetization programs, and improve overall support for the creative community.

?? SKEEVY MCNS WILL NEVER DIE ??
YouTuber and podcast host Ethan Klein accused BBTV of stealing $600,000 from him. The issue arose in part from BBTV taking a cut from YouTube memberships, which were not explicitly mentioned in the initial agreement. This incident has not only shed light on the unethical practices of some MCNs, but has also prompted other creators to investigate their own contracts. Let this serve as a learning lesson for all creators out there – you need to be vigilant and demand transparency from your partners, especially when it comes to revenue distribution.
?? NAB ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ABOUT GEN AI ??
We led a fascinating roundtable discussion about Generative AI at NAB ( National Association of Broadcasters ) this week. Many creators are embracing AI technology to help augment the skills of their teams and improve efficiencies. We heard from people using AI to generate storyboards, develop new tv formats, and test different lighting angles. Although many AI-driven solutions seem to be in the works, some companies are already bridging the gap between Hollywood-style producers and creators. One company is working to create AI-generated soundtracks and sound effects for videos, which can be useful for creators of all sizes. It's exciting to think about the potential advancements we may witness in AI by next year's event!
? MONTANA BANS TIKTOK: WHAT'S NEXT? ??
Montana has become the first US state to pass legislation banning TikTok on all personal devices, prohibiting TikTok from operating within state lines and barring app stores from offering TikTok for downloads. According to CNN , the legislation outlines potential penalties of $10,000 per violation per day. These penalties would also apply to any app store found to have violated the law. Meanwhile, individual users of TikTok would not be penalized for accessing the app. We're skeptical about the ability to enforce this ban; however, it does highlight the growing concern around data privacy and national security related to TikTok. As the situation escalates, it is crucial for TikTok to address these issues before the platform experiences a slow "death by a thousand cuts."

Journeying with Passion & Purpose
1 年Pinterest is a platform that allows users to save and share images, videos, and other content they find on the internet. While Pinterest does have a policy prohibiting content that promotes harmful activities or illegal behavior, it is not specifically designed as a platform for kids. Parents should be cautious when allowing their children to use Pinterest, as the platform contains a wide variety of content, including some that may not be appropriate for young children. Pinterest does offer some features to help users filter content, including a "restricted mode" that can be turned on to block certain types of content, as well as the ability to block individual users or pins. However, these tools are not foolproof and may not catch all inappropriate content. Ultimately, parents should carefully monitor their children's use of Pinterest and other online platforms, and have open conversations with them about staying safe online.
