PILOT PLAY PROJECT 1: South Africa with MADaboutART
RSP has been working with MADaboutArt as a collaborative partner for over 5 YEARS to build our organisational capacity and impact. Through this partnership an increased awareness on the value of play was built, and MAD has since been inspired to advocate for and champion children’s right to play more centrally into their organisation.
WHO ARE MADaboutART?
At the heart of the community, the MADaboutART centre provides a safe space where children have fun learning and begin their path to a brighter future by using art as a platform for healing & igniting hope.
They focus on one specific community in South Africa with high levels of HIV infection, poverty and social exclusion. [Click Here for more Info]
OUR WORK WITH MADaboutART
Our relationship with MADaboutART, a South Africa based charity that supports vulnerable young people affected by HIV/AIDS, began even before RSP was set up as a registered charity and continues to date! It started with RSP providing operational & governance support to MADaboutART whilst we learnt about play based learning and programmes from them and this has now evolved into collaborating to deliver play programmes together.

In 2022, RSP and MAD started co-creating a rights-based pilot play project launched in February 2022. Together we set terms, objectives and activity plans of the project, a local needs assessment and consideration of MADs past rights-based interventions supported these. We also designed the MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning) and reporting frameworks to inform our work, not only gathering data from the children and their carers/parents, but also the facilitators and trustees, to be used as learning reflections to build from and share with others.
WHATS NEXT?
Using the skills & experiences acquired through past workshops & activities, the children at MADAboutArt participated in the creation of an original advocacy tool that ultimately emerged as a series of ?? ?????????????? ???????????? advocating on their right to play - exploring their experience, barriers and call to action on accessing their right to play.
“In partnership with UK charity Rockstone & Pebbles, we’re supporting children to access their ?????????????????????? ?????????? ???? ????????. Children at MAD are creating a series of ?????????????????? ?????? ????????????, based on their lived experiences of play, both barriers and joys. Panels will be brought to life with fun and games at schools and community events to build awareness of the vital necessity of play in children’s lives. Children’s voices creating social awareness and ???????????????? ?? ???????????????? ????????????.” - MADAboutART
